TODO: update this website

Vincent Beers 2018-10

…Yeah. I have not done that in a while, yet a lot has happened to my career and activities in general. I might want to work on the website to reflect that!

In a nutshell, working at Sogeti has provided me with so many opportunities, it’s kinda crazy. I’ve been getting more into the Ops side of developer work. One such responsibility I enjoy doing these days is automating complex deployment pipelines with Ansible. I’ve had the privilege to do this at two places so far: ING Bank and ProRail, a national railway company. Thanks for providing me with opportunities to both of these companies as well!

Besides that I’ve also learned reactive programming with Angular (not AngularJS!), which opened me up to TypeScript, which is something I love, along with all the other neat little additions that the JavaScript (fine, ECMAScript) standard has seen. So in my spare time I’m using this knowledge to develop a little game (together with my wife, who is a great artist).

Future plans for the website

This website is based on WordPress but I’m thinking of just leveraging its REST API to generate a static website that I can customize entirely to my liking. I’m kind of hacking around the theme and restrictions to how WordPress is built right now.

Okay, that’s about all I wanted to get off my chest, to be read by probably no one! Ciao.

Experimenting with CSS Grids

After experimenting with it for a while, I’m really happy about the power and flexibility they offer. It didn’t take long to get used to the paradigm of “hey everything is built out of rows and columns and you can tell the browser to position them in different ways”. Compared to the whole thing that’s about messing with floats and clearfixes, this for once¬†doesn’t feel like it’s a hack.

And grids offer complete flexibility in the way you line things out vertically, too.

Trobble and Bounders

This is my portfolio, but it is also more than that.

Over time, I will be posting pretty much every little project I’ve worked on in my life. This includes my endeavors in:

  • web development,
  • game development,
  • coding,
  • music creation,
  • my involvement in communities,
  • translations…

Oh, and it’ll also serve as a blog of sorts, as you can tell.

Have fun exploring.
